OPEN SOURCE FORMS
@HOME PRACTICE
I’m guessing you’ve had enough screen time by now.
So I’m offering a creative & somatic practice, delivered right through your earbuds.
WHAT IT IS
The practice is called Open Source Forms. I became certified to teach it in 2010.
It’s open (there is *all* the permission to do the practice how it works for you), it’s a source-y (it’s a resource you can receive a lot of inspiration from, and return to again & again), and the forms part is a gentle, supportive structure in which you can dance around your living room, lie in stillness, do the dishes, go for a walk, or just be.
In the series of 15 audio sessions (each about an hour), I guide you through invitations to check in with your body, move (or not), and lie on the floor (or a bed or couch). I offer movement suggestions and imagery that encourage releasing unnecessary tension, letting go of habitual patterns, and redistributing your energy. These sessions give your nervous system a break from your usual, making room for new possibilities. What’s more? This all happens within a supportive musical atmosphere created by my talented colleague and friend, J Stuart Smith.
This practice is accessible for people who have large-to-limited range of motion, an injury, a busy mind, fatigue, pain, dreams, and/or desires. You have agency and are entrusted to relate with the material as is best for you.
WHAT YOU GET
Access to 15 audio-guided sessions that you can stream anytime.
WHAT YOU NEED
Access to the internet to stream the audio-guided sessions.
A device to stream from (e.g. a computer or smartphone). An external speaker or wireless earbuds will improve sound quality.
Ideally, enough space for you to lie down, roll side to side, and move your arms and/or legs without bumping into anything. I do this practice in my small living room, which works just fine.
A notebook or paper and something(s) to write (or draw or paint) with.
Things that make the experience as comfortable as possible (I recommend soft clothes that you feel special in & maybe a mat or blanket).
WHAT IT COSTS
This series is free. Please consider giving $ to the Honor Native Land Tax and Movement for Black Lives.
